Nara trip notes
My quick notes for a Nara trip.
Transport tip: Kintetsu Nara to Kyoto
Buy the ticket in advance online when taking the Kintetsu Limited Express between Nara and Kyoto.
When you ride from Kintetsu Nara Station to Kyoto Station:
- Car 4 or 5 is at the front from the Nara side, so you can exit faster at Kyoto Station.
- Seats in rows 3 and 5 can have clearer window views because pillars are less likely to block your sightline.
- Kintetsu Nara Station has limited elevators, so allow extra time if you travel with large luggage or a stroller. 🛗
- If elevator access is important, head to Kintetsu Nara station earlier to find and take the elevator to the platform.
Mini Inn Nara - Hotel recommendation
Mini Inn Nara is a very basic guesthouse-style option for travelers who want a clean and quiet stay at a lower price.
- Location: Mini Inn Nara on Google Maps
- Style: Basic, clean, quiet, and budget-friendly
- Bathroom: Private bathroom
- Kitchen: Shared kitchen
- Front desk: No front desk
Recommendation:
- Confirm check-in instructions in advance because the hotel does not have a front desk.
Quiet season - February
February is a quiet season for tourism in Nara, so you can expect fewer crowds at popular attractions.
Even the 3-day weekend in February can be less crowded than a regular week in spring or fall.
But it does get cold and could snow, so pack accordingly! ❄️
